From Kuala Lumpur, we took a bus to the river that would be our entrance to Malaysia's rainforest. We were going to Taman Negara - the National Forest. After a three hour boat ride we reached the main part of the park.
On one side of the river was a small village lacking any sort of plumbing, but still with an Internet cafe!

We ventured into the rain forest several times during our stay. On the first night we joined a nighttime walk, but the only wildlife we saw was a snake. That night it was too dark to see all the leeches, but the next day we found that they were everywhere.

Hiking in the rainforest is hard work. The humidity presses down on you and you find yourself drenched in sweat and mist after only a few minutes. Still, the forest was amazing, huge trees towered above, bamboo patches surrounded the trails, and the views of the mist sliding down the hills were spectacular.
