Travel

Over the past few years I've visited four continents during various trips abroad. I love to visit exotic places and see how other people live.

Barcelona

Barcelona and Madrid, March 2007

For Spring Break in 2007, Megan and I took a trip to Barcelona and Madrid. I had been to both cities about five years earlier, the summer after I graduated highschool, but it was Megan's first time in Europe (other than an airport). We had a great time exploring the cities and sampling the local cuisine.

Trinity College

Dublin, June 2006

I spent a week in Dublin, Ireland at the International Conference on Autonomic Computing '06. It was my first presentation at a conference and was a very good experience. I met a lot of people from both industry and academia who are doing interesting work related to mine. I also got to travel a bit towards the end of the week, including a trip to Glendalough, the site of an 8th century monastery and two picturesque lakes.

Florida Keys

Florida Keys, March 2006

Megan and I took a trip to the Florida Keys over Spring Break. We walked around Key West, sunned ourselves at Bahia Honda State Park, and enjoyed 85 degree weather while everyone back in Massachusetts froze.

Chimney Pond

Mt. Katahdin, Summer 2005

This was a short backpacking trip with my dad and brother up one of the most visually impressive peaks on the East Coast.

In the Swiss Alps

Holland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and the Czech Republic, Summer 2005

This trip took us through the canals of Amsterdam, up the Rhine by boat, and even further up to the top of the Swiss Alps. We swung through Austria and ended in Prague.

The Coliseum

Germany, Austria, and Italy, Summer 2003

Not tired of Europe after one trip, I returned with two different friends to visit some of the places I hadn't made it to on my first adventure. This time through we got to ride the ferries in Venice, climb the alps over Konnigsee, and munch on bratwurst in Munich.

The Alhambra

Spain, France, and (briefly) Morocco, Summer 2001

This was a five week backpacking trip through Spain and France with two friends from high school the summer after I graduated. We wandered through Parisian alleyways, consumed massive amounts of paella, and generally had a great time. The last two weeks of the trip I spent at a spanish language school in the city of Malaga on Spain's southern coast.

The Royal Palace

South East Asia, Summer 1999

My first trip abroad was with my father while I was still in highschool. We went to Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. We generally traveled by ourselves, but were lucky enough to be able to stay with one of my dad's former students in Thailand. Having him as a guide was great because it let us visit some small villages where the average tourist would never find himself.
