My name is Tim Wood, and I graduated with a B. S. in Computer Engineering from Rutgers University. In Fall 2005 I started towards my Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Computer Science.

  Current Events

March 07

Back in March, Megan and I took a trip to Spain for our Spring Break. We had a great time exploring the cities of Barcelona and Madrid. We took a lot of pictures, a few of which you can find here.

The paper I worked on earlier this fall was recently accepted to the Networked System Design and Implementation (NSDI 07) conference. This is a great conference in my field, so I'm excited to have my first graduate publication show up there. More information on my research, as well as a copy of the paper, are available at my UMass site.

August 2006

At the end of the summer, I wanted to learn something new, so I wrote a simple firefox extension. It's called FoxyMeter and it is incredibly useful. Alright, maybe not, but it is entertaining at least. It adds a small "odometer" to the status bar of your browser that counts the number of pages you've visited. If you can get it up one million, it will loop back to zero. That may (should) take some time. More information here, or at the official firefox addon site. Over 12,000 people have downloaded it... not too shabby.

I just spent a week in Dublin, Ireland at the International Conference on Autonomic Computing '06. It was my first presentation at a conference and was a very good experience. I met a lot of people from both industry and academia who are doing interesting work related to mine. I also got to travel a bit towards the end of the week, including a trip to Glendalough, the site of an 8th century monastery and two picturesque lakes. Pictures are up here.

Sometime in the Past...

In case you hadn't noticed, I put up pictures from my spring break trip to Key West with Megan here. Obviously I also discovered that Picasa (Google's image program) can make these neet collages that I think make excellent icons...

I have officially sold out. I've placed google ads on my Subwoofer Project page. I'm mainly curious about how the process works, but if I make millions, that will be a nice bonus. For some reason that page gets tons of hits from visitors outside the US. Almost all the comments in my gallery are in foreign languages. Of course they are not necessarily any harder to decipher than the "english" ones: "hey wat [up] dude just wanted you 2 no u're shits bangin hard g neways catch ya laters."

Someone is sending tons of spam messages using a ReplyTo address from my domain (info at tim-wood.net). This mail is not from me and I have no control over it. It isn't actually coming from my server, it just has my name on it. A lot of the spam is bouncing back to me, sorry to anybody who actually gets any of it. What is the world coming to...

Amherst

9/1/05

I have moved to Amherst, MA and am getting settled in my new home. Things have been going smoothly, but of course classes haven't started yet. Naturally I am very excited about the prospect of starting my research and beginning my graduate life. I am working in the Laboratory for Advanced Software Studies under Prashant Shenoy. My new website at UMass can be found here.

In the Swiss Alps

6/26/05

Since graduating in May I've been busy vacationing - it's a hard life...

I started with a trip to Europe for 3 weeks where I backpacked with my friend Becky through The Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

Pictures of Europe can be found here

Then I went on a backpacking trip in Maine with my dad and brother. We were in Baxter State Park and climbed Mt. Katahdin. It was beautiful and we had great views from the top. I'll put up pictures from that trip soon.

Pictures of Katahdin are here
